“LOVE IS THE MISSION” 2022 MURAL PROPOSAL

“Love Is The Mission” Is a series of seven color mosaics to stand as a universal reminder that we are all striving for the same goal. Because I believe, that if we are to speak on the rights of immigrants, we must look to those who were here before us.  We must look to those who travelled here from other parts of the Americas. Those who did so, and upon arriving, chose not to conquer the land but to live in harmony with it. To treat civilizations, nations and all human life as a part of nature and not apart from nature. This gathering space is to live as the visual monument to how we can move through the world in a universal and wholly different manner than we are accustomed to. To not only revere the words of our past leaders, but to work daily and act with courage in the confines of love. Not that love is gushy or soft. On the contrary: Love is resilient, moored in times of pain, and unwilling to compromise in the face of wrongdoing.

Each mosaic stands at eleven feet tall and nine feet wide. The patterns, to be abstract as to be unobtrusive to any onlooker, stand as monoliths intended to say to our offspring and any others who may walk by: This community, when pressed to represent itself in the city of Atlanta, chose a message of love and care.

Their prodigious size is such not only due to the enormity of the canvas, but also due to the colossal task ahead: One of bringing our world closer together through the act of love. Love of people, love of our planet, love of ourselves.
Using primary colors I hope to evoke a sense of childhood innocence and curiosity; Folding them into complex patterns to evoke the intricacies of responsibility, adulthood and growth.
